Well nell's bells, look who's actually blogging on the right day!
(Thank you, thank you--I realize it's a big deal.)
Well,
today was a much more....something...kind of day.
We didn't have to leave quite as early today--
still the last one there for those of you keeping count.
Today was White House Day--so we headed toward that general direction.
We got to the area early so that we would have time to go by Ford's Theater and The Peterson House.
Only if you know me, could you understand the effect this had.
History tends to change me into an emotional flub.
The sight of a musket can make me cry--
a swatch of an American Flag can awe me--
Anything historical or political--just mark it down to the patriot inside me.
Today I stood in front of a pillowcase covered in Lincoln's blood.
I can't say anything.
I looked at the exact box where he sat.
Again...nothing.
I'd rather not cheapen it by trying to explain with words.
Just understand: sincerely meaningful.
It upsets me to think that there are those who would rather tear down and spread disillusionments about heros rather than allowing them to exist.
Yes, Lincoln suspended Habeus Corpus.
I am aware.
Do not think I am uneducated just because I refuse to stand out amongst the masses by bashing one of the greatest men to ever lead our nation.
One of the few things I am passionate about.
So sorry to rant.
Moving on.
We stopped by Au Bon Pain for a quick breakfast--
Cinnamon Roll: ohhhh my.
Heavenly.
And then, we headed to the White House.
aka
My future home. :)
After a cold stand outside, a couple security stops, and some guards that really liked my accent,
we headed inside.
I often wonder how long it takes one to grow accustomed to such sights as White House before you.
Or the sun setting behind the Capitol.
Or maybe the Lincoln Memorial in Spring.
When do fresh eyes become old and wizened?
I hope to never grow numb or impervious to the sights of the things I love and respect.
As many times as I am in D.C.--
I hope I still get cold chills.
I hope I still tear up.
I hope I still stand before Ronald Reagan's portrait--
probably speechless for the first time in my life.
The White House: great sucess.
We headed for a quick lunch and then back to CPAC for the speakers.
Not quite as exciting as yesterday, or how I hope tomorrow to be.
But interesting and educating, nontheless.
Then back to the room for a nap, some supper, and now watching "The Patriot."
All-in-all,
one hella good day.
Tomorrow promises Rick Santorum, Bill Bennett, Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, and of course, keynote speaker, Glenn Beck.
God--I've died and gone to Republican Heaven.
Hello there, Ronald Reagan.
Conservatively Yours,
Hunter Stevens
