Day 1
3:20- I woke up.
3:21- Contemplated going back to sleep and skipping trip.
3:21.5- Decided that was a bad idea woke up and got in shower
SKIP A FEW EVENTS
11:00-Arrived in D.C.
12:00- Smacked Ben’s Chili Bowl
I mean it’s a phenomenal place to eat, great atmosphere (People yelling, very few white people, great art and photos on the walls), food is the key though. It deserves its newly found fame.
1:00- Went museum touring
Got to go to the American History Museum, it’s solid. Saw Archie Bunker’s chair and Dorothy’s shoes. Learned about the railroad system. I also pretended that I was a tour guide and couldn’t quit doing James Stewart’s speech about lady liberty and Abraham Lincoln from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. “ You see that lady right there represents liberty….” “Be most excellent to everyone.”
Went to the Air and Space Museum. Not as cool as what I remembered when I was 10 but still pretty sweet. Then again when I was 10 I wanted to be Maverick from Top Gun and Will Smith in Independence Day. (Everything is and will be a movie reference). Also I contemplated the fact that everything just had to go perfect in order for the repairs in Apollo 13 to work. That is still mind boggling that they made it home ok.
6:30- Dinner at Rumors
The manager/owner/nice man at Rumors was absolutely the most hospitable man I have ever seen in a restaurant setting. We asked to watch the Louisville game he made it happen. We asked if we could split the special, he did it. He talked to us, wanted to know how everything was, made sure it was perfect and then got us a drink at the end of the night. Great meal.
9:00- Out cold for the evening, hotel beds have never bothered me. Give me three pillows and I’m good.
Goals for Week
Mastery of Metro System
Increase Conservatism
Not let anyone know that I’m actually a registered Democrat (Glasgow is still kind of solid south). I originally registered Rep. but had to vote in the primary so that explains things.
