I loved the line up for the second day. Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, and Herman Cain were flawless; but since everyone else is again doing an immaculate job at documenting the main sessions, I want to point out the intelligent presentation by Representative Marsha Blackburn - TENNESSEE!
The overall theme for the conference has been smaller government - rightly so, but after hearing that message over and over it begins to lose its purpose. Blackburn brought purpose back to the overall theme of the week. She narrowed it down to an issue that should have more attention - net neutrality. Basically, government/ISPs do not need to control or regulate the communication on the internet. Besides freedom of speech, she pointed out how more control would hurt our economy. This is one of many instances and examples of where we need smaller government. The reason this stands out is because internet usage is more than prevalent - it is a part of our lifestyles.
I was lucky enough to have the pleasure to meet Herman Cain yesterday. I had no idea I was going to, and it was definitely a highlight of my day. A picture is coming soon! His message was strong and very appropriate. He used one of my favorite quotes in his message:
"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free." -President Ronald Reagan
When Cain left the stage, the Marvin Gaye "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" played. It was then stuck in my head for the next few hours. Good thing I like that song.
